A burn refers to the combustion process in vegetation or the by-products of such combustion. A burn scar is the mark left on the surface of the ground following combustion of vegetation, which can be identified and delimited on satellite images (Rivera-Lombardi, 2005). Di Bella et al. (2008) defined burn scars as the trace left on a surface as the result of fire, permitting quantification of the affected area.
Monthly information on burning scars in the Colombian Amazon can be found in this section.
