Burning refers to the process of burning vegetation or the by-products of this burning. The burn scar is the mark left on the surface of the land by the combustion of vegetation and that can be identified and delimited in satellite images (Rivera-Lombardi, 2005), in the same way Di Bella et al. (2008) define burn scars as the trace left on a surface that has been affected by fire, which allows the area affected to be quantified.
Monthly information on the mapped areas of burn scars in the Colombian Amazon can be found in this section.
